Because you'd probably have more fun writing with us if you knew what the Hell we were writing about, right?

AFFILIATES
Those whose professional services the Council utilizes on a regular basis.
AGENT
Private investigators employed by the Sterling Group whose expertise tends to be most heavily reconnaissance and/or combat-based. They're always paired with an Investigator (see below). Most are otherworldly themselves; the rare non-gifted human who has already been exposed to the supernatural may be considered for the team. They all swear an oath of silent service to their clients and can be killed for breaking it.
BALANCE
The carefully watched power struggles between good and evil and mankind and the otherworldly.
CHOSEN
Witches and wizards who are chosen by the Founder's Flame to serve in making anonymous decisions regarding matters discussed at Council meetings. Only one per founding family's bloodline can serve at a time. The Chosen always number six. In the interest of preserving the integrity of the Verdicts, only the Chosen know who is Chosen. Not even the Elders are privy. Should a Chosen one be discovered, they and their discoverer(s) must be put to swift and quiet death.
CAMBION
Half demon (father), half non-magic-using human (mother). The only kind of demon we accept. They exist on physical par with the average werewolf/vampire in terms of durability and impact. They are more sensitive to blessed/holy attacks and items. Each cambion is plagued by one of the Seven Deadlies. Please ask during character creation which are still available.
COUNCIL
A group of witches and wizards, formed over four centuries ago, whose primary purpose is to monitor supernatural activity in the country of England. They protect the Balance and the Veil, calling on their Affiliates to handle most of the dirty work. While the Council can boast the regular attendance of the otherworldly community's most prominent and influential members, all otherworldly beings are permitted to attend and speak at Council meetings. Council meetings are held in a Great Hall underneath the oldest part of bustling Portobello Road and Market, concealed and protected by magics so old that not even Elder Lyons can alter them alone.
DREAMINGS
Astrally projected communication from the Founder's Flame to the Chosen. These communications usually manifest as dream-like encounters while the Chosen are asleep. On rare occasion, they can be interactive. The first Dreaming a Chosen one experiences is always their induction.
ELDERS
The eldest of each of the founding families is given this honorary and generally makes themselves responsible for assisting in running Council meetings.
FIRST SIX
The first generation of Chosen ones, circa the early 17th century, often referred to with great reverence and whose legends are looked to for wisdom in times of indecision.
FOUNDER'S FLAME
The Founder's Flame has burned ever-bright atop its tall, quartz pedestal in the center of the Great Hall for as long as anyone can remember. It serves as a guiding light for and a way to protect the identities of the Chosen, as their Verdicts are delivered to the Elders through it. The Flame is omniscient and can be picked up as a psychic and/or energetic presence, however will not respond to attempts to communicate with it psychically and is staunchly protected against psychic attack. Council history suggests that it was created by the First Six on the night of the very first Vote. Nobody knows the story of how or why.
INVESTIGATORS
Private investigators employed by the Sterling Group whose expertise tends to be most heavily knowledge-based. They're always paired with an Agent (see above). Most are otherworldly themselves; the rare non-gifted human who has already been exposed to the supernatural may be considered for the team. They all swear an oath of silent service to their clients and can be killed for breaking it.
NEPHILIM
Half angel (father), half non-magic-using human (mother). The only kind of angel we accept. They exist on physical par with the average werewolf/vampire in terms of durability and impact. They are more sensitive to cursed/unholy attacks and items. Each nephilim is plagued by one of the Seven Virtues. Please ask during character creation which are still available.
VEIL
The Veil hides the otherworld from mankind, though they exist in the same time and space. It's both magical and mundane, consisting of various protective items, spells and influences that suggest there is no such thing as magic and that nothing that goes bump in the night is any more than fairy tale and superstition.
VERDICTS
These are the decisions made by the Chosen and shared with the Elders by the Founder's Flame.
VOTES
Meetings held by the Chosen in secret to determine Verdicts. The times, dates and locations of these meetings are only discussed and shared in the most cryptic ways, some of which don't even require speech. They are never recorded in writing or otherwise.
