We bid the mystery surrounding Shepherd University adieu and venture out into London proper.

Whether natural or man-made, curiously long-lived wizard Abaddon "Don" Bell has pretty serious issues with the law. A charismatic creep, Don has managed to make a few friends and influence a few people into supporting his neuroses. These are the tales of their various attempts to punk Mother Nature, to stretch the boundaries of commonly accepted magical practice, to crumble the Council from the inside out, to turn the Sterling Group's investigations into wild goose chases, to cause mayhem and spread misinformation on Shepherd University's campus and to be a real pain in our Storyteller's ass in general.

This story focuses on six large, long-standing and influential English families of witches and wizards. These families came together during England's early 17th century witch trials and executions to establish a presence called the Council that would keep an ear to the ground and protect witches from fear's bloodlust. As the Council grew with generations, their mission grew to include oversight of supernatural activity all over the country in the interest of maintaining balance and ensuring the continued strength and secrecy of the Veil, which is what they call the illusion that their ancestors created in order to keep the supernatural and mankind from destroying each other.

Dollarhyde Industries is the owning and operating entity of the Kingfisher, London's premier membership-based casino. In addition to two hundred and fifty gaming tables, a tournament room and its high-end design concept, the Kingfisher boasts five-star hotel accommodations and the relocated Clockwork Cat, a steampunk flavored lounge well favored by foodies and liquor snobs. Some say that young entrepreneur Nero Dollarhyde has outdone himself with it. If only they knew what darkness hides behind the legal front it presents for his -- both standard and macabre -- black market operations. It's one thing to cross a man with a temper and connections. It's another to cross one who howls at the moon.

Joe's, as it's affectionately called by its regulars, is the eclectic neighborhood café where most of our characters meet and their stories get tangled up together. It was opened across the street from Shepherd University in 1974 by current owner Molly Star's father (Joe himself) and has undergone its first remodel and repurpose in forty years since the old man's passing. The new environs include a counter and bar seating, a full kitchen and an acoustic stage where an open mic is hosted every Thursday night, in addition to what ever else ends up on the bookings calendar. Molly and trusty, quiet lead server Andy oversee a small crew and keep their doors open around the clock. After all, most of their best customers are things that go bump in the night. Just like everyone who comes through its front door, Joe's has stories to tell, too.

Shepherd University is a highly selective sixth form college and university with a student body of 500, located on the River Thames in South Bank. Construction on it began three years prior to 1625 C.E., its first year in session. Its benefactors were and continue to be completely anonymous. Run by a rarely met with man known only as Headmaster, its ties to the community surrounding it are many and tend to run deep. Notable landmarks on campus include Veitch Library, Lily Hall and Event Center, the Edlington organ and recital hall, and Turner Hall, where all students who live on campus are housed. Rumors suggest that these four buildings are haunted by the spirits of women who were wrongfully burnt at the stake hundreds of years ago. Most people dismiss the rumors as silly old ghost stories. Students are encouraged to do likewise and focus on their studies instead of superstition.
