The Chime of Fire The Chime of Death
( Face: Ksenia Solo
Screen name: oreshin reborn )
Sunday, March 12, 1995 -- A fire tore through a rural Amish community in Lancaster County yesterday. The blaze destroyed several farm homes and killed 25 residents of the religious sect. Twelve others were injured and hospitalized for burns and smoke inhalation injuries. Firefighters say the blaze was like anything they had ever seen before. The flames would not immediately respond to traditional extinguishing methods. It burned for hours before finally extinguishing itself around 2:30 am this morning. The fire appears to have started in the barn owned by Richard Sentrosi, an Amish convert most known for his previous contributions to the personal computing landscape in Philadelphia. The bodies of Richard, his wife Gale, and their young son Thomas, 4, were found charred in and around the barn. Their daughter Rebekah, 6, remains unaccounted for. Search and Rescue teams will remain on scene to find the missing girl. Any information about her whereabouts should be reported to the Pennsylvania Center for Missing and Exploited Children by calling 911. Rebekah was never found, however. It didn't take long for the young Amish girl to be forgotten and her story to be lost amidst coverage of a U.S. President and his scandal with his young intern with a blue dress. Without a family pushing for her recovery, the case went cold and her files were tucked away into a box, only to continue to accumulate dust for the next twenty years. She hadn't died, though. Far from it. The blaze had been caused by the little girl. Six going on seven and full of rage for her father. She had tried to protect her brother, but she had ended up setting the barn on fire without knowing how. Though she had been engulfed in the flames along with the rest of her family, there wasn't a single strand of hair out of place. Not one burn, not one wound. The incident had caught the attention of a powerful Magess from a different realm, one who saw Rebekah's potential and knew she could hone it to perfection. Rebekah was taken that night, whisked away to RhyDin and raised as a student of Oreshin -- Siobhan, she was called. Unfortunately, the Magess could not have predicted that history would repeat itself, but two decades later, it did. To save the girl from the trauma she had accidentally created for herself, the girl's memories were locked away, and she was taken back to the Earthly realm. London, England to be more specific. Deposited there with little more than the clothes on her back and a missing chunk of time, Siobhan (or was it Rebekah again?) was left to reconstruct her life from scratch the best she could. |
