RITUAL FOR THE GOD AND GODDESS:
PRAYER TO THE GOD AND GODDESS
We light these five candles
on this, the night of Samhain.
Goddess -- light red and black candles, recite:
A pair of candles is lit
in honor of the Goddess.
She is Maiden and Mother throughout the year
and tonight we honor her as Crone.
God -- light brown and green candles, recite:
A pair of candles is lit
in honor of the God.
He is wild and fertile and animal
and tonight we honor him as the Horned God.
White candle is lit, recite:
This candle is lit
in honor of hearth and home.
The mother and father
watch over us tonight as we honor them
RITUAL FOR THE LOST:
A full plate and mug is set before each family's pile of personal items of the lost and at an empty space at the altar.
PRAYER FOR THE FORGOTTEN
Tonight, in the darkness, under this starry sky, we remember those who were forgotten. Tonight we memorialize you, the unknown, the unloved, the unwanted of our world. Whoever you may have been in life, tonight, now, in death, you are ours as you watch from the other side, at least for a little while.
PRAYER FOR THE LOST
This is the night when the gateway between
our world and the spirit world is thinnest.
Tonight we acknowledge those who came before.
Tonight we honor family, of both blood and spirit.
They watch over us always,
protecting and guiding us,
and we thank them.
Spirits of my fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, we call to you,
and welcome you to join us for this meal.
RITUAL FOR THE END OF THE HARVEST:
Each person at the gathering takes their cup of wine and sprinkles a little bit of it onto the Earth after the prayer.
PRAYER FOR THE END OF THE HARVEST
Corn has been shucked,
grain has been threshed,
herbs have been hung to dry.
Grapes have been pressed,
potatoes have been dug,
beans have been shelled and canned.
Wild game has been plentiful.
We have gathered the harvest.
Now it is at its end.
We will eat, and we will live,
and we will be grateful.
